Rarity walked up to the house Luna was staying for her research on how to live like a normal pony. She needed someone to look after Sweetie Belle that day and she knew Luna was the only pony available after Pinkie Pie's surprise party for Luna's half birthday. The alicorn was fine the next day unlike the other ponies. She learned her lesson about alcohol after Pinkie's last party.

Knock. Knock.

An earth pony with a yellow coat and an orange mane answered the door. Her cutie mark appeared to be a smiling sun.

"Hello, Sunshine. Is Luna home? I have favor to ask of her."

Sunshine was not very sunny this morning after doing five shots in a row, during what Rainbow Dash called, a Rainbow Race. Sunshine opened the door more and motioned her tired, aching head behind her. Luna came out of the kitchen and smiled at Rarity and Sweetie Belle.

"It is so lovely to see you two this morning. What brings you about?"

"I was wondering if you could watch Sweetie for the afternoon, Luna. I have a huge order to fill at the last minute and no pony else is available after last night."

"Oh, um, well… you see… I, um, made plans already with Big Mac this afternoon." Luna had a slight blush come across her face as she mentioned the stallion's name.

"My dear Celestia! Are two going on a date? I wouldn't want Sweetie Belle to intrude on it."

Luna waved her hoofs about. "Oh no! It's not a date. Just hanging out. Two normal ponies, just going to the park."

"Oh thank you so much, Darling! I'll be sure to return the gesture sometime." Rarity turned to Sweetie. "Now, you be a good pony for Big Mac and Luna, you hear me? Any trouble and you won't get to hang out with the Crusaders for a week outside of school."

"I promise to be on my best behavior! Cutie mark crusader honor!" Sweetie Belle held her hoof to her forehead and gave a salute to Rarity.

Luna walked up to the little filly and motioned her out of the house. "Come on, now. Big Mac is finishing up some work on Sweet Apple Acres. I told him I would meet him at the park. Sunshine, will you be alright?"

Sunshine was passed out on the sofa with her head under a pillow. Drool had started to run out of her mouth.

Teehee. She is too cute, Luna thought, but not as cute as Big Mac.

Big Mac brought a lily flower with him for his meet-up with Luna at the park. Today was the day he was finally going to ask her out on a date. He kept asking her out on causal hang outs which always lead her to bringing Sunshine or her other friends. He admitted to himself that he had fun, especially the time at the water park when Luna went down her first water slide. This time, though, he wanted to be sure it would just be the two of them. He knew Sunshine and all the other ponies loved doing Rainbow Races at Pinkie Pie's party, so he planned the park hang out the day after Luna's half birthday.

"Mac! Over here!" Luna waved her hoof about and trotted over to Mac.

Oh, Celestia, this is it. The day I have been waiting for… wait, is that a little filly next to her? Big Mac's face turned to that of disappointment as Sweetie Belle hugged his leg.

"Rarity had a last minute order to fill and no pony else could watch her sister. Is it alright if she joined us?"

"I promise I will be a good filly!" Sweetie looked up at Big Mac with eyes reminiscent to Applebloom's when she wanted something.

"Of course it is fine. The more the merrier, right?"

"YAY!" Sweetie Belle jumped up and down with excitement. "Ooo that's a pretty flower. Who is it for?"

Mac blushed but luckily his red coat covered most of it. "It's for, um, it's for you!" he bent down and tied the lily into the filly's braid.

"Thank you! Applebloom has the sweetest brother!"

Mac sighed and turned to Luna. "So, what would you..."

"LET'S HAVE A RACE! READY, SET… GO!" Sweetie dashed towards the swing set.

Luna and Big Mac ran after her to make sure she didn't get into any trouble. As they were racing, Mac stayed a few steps back so he could look over Luna's radiant body. Her coat shimmered brilliantly in the sunlight; her mane flowed ever so perfectly as she galloped. He was focused so much on Luna that he didn't see the...

"Ow!"

Luna halted to a stop and turned around to find Mac sprawled against a tree.

Luna giggled, "Looks like you did a Luna right there. Maybe I am rubbing off on you."

Big Mac smiled and giggled, "Eeyup, looks that way. And I don't find that to be a bad thing."

Luna and Mac gazed into each other eyes for a second before Sweetie Belle shouted, "HEY SLOW PONIES! THERE IS COTTON CANDY! CAN I HAVE SOME?"

Big Mac and Luna trotted over to Sweetie Belle and bought some cotton candy being sold at a vender near the swing set. She happily took it with her to the swings. Luna and Mac sat on a nearby bench. They watched as the young filly tried to eat her cotton candy while swinging as high as she could.

Luna shoved her muzzle into the sweet, light fluffy candy. It was her favorite since she tried it at the baseball game where she met Big Mac. She glanced over at him and smiled.

"What are you smiling about?"

"I just remembered the first time we met each other at that baseball game."

"I remember that day perfectly. You were so cute when you ate that cotton candy."

Luna's cheek turned as red as they could and she looked away from Mac's face over to Sweetie Belle.

"Ahem. Luna, there's a reason why I asked you to the park today…"

Luna turned back to Big Mac's now flustered face. This time, he was the one to turn away and look towards Sweetie.

"Would, um, you do me the honor, no, the pleasure, no, um…well…will you, Princess of the Night, will you… go out with, um…" Big Mac took a big gulp. "Me?"

Luna smiled and nibbled at her cotton candy. Big Mac, a strong, tough stallion and he was tripping over his words to ask her out.

"I would love to go on a date with you." Luna replied. She got up to get Sweetie Belle and they headed back home.

Big Mac relaxed on the park bench and smiled to himself. He just got a date with the prettiest filly in all of Equestria.

Sunshine and Luna walked towards Rarity's boutique. Rarity owed her a favor after watching Sweetie Belle and Sunshine insisted that Luna get a new outfit for the date.

"We want you to look your absolute best! I mean, if all goes well, Mac could be your prince! He would ride up to you on a white horse, throw you over onto the saddle, and caress your face with his hoof…"

Luna stared at Sunshine as she shook off her romance novel day dream.

"Why is Big Mac riding a horse?" Luna gave a puzzling look.

"Uhh…"

"Well, thanks anyway for that vivid picture, but this is only the first date. Nothing major is going to happen."

"Well, there is your first kiss."

Luna stopped outside Rarity's store and stammered, "My first… kiss?"

Before Sunshine had time to calm her down, Rarity appeared before them.
"Hello my darlings! It is so nice to see you! Come on now, we have so many outfits to try and so little time!" Rarity dragged Luna by the hoof inside the store and Sunshine followed behind.

After two hours of frilly dresses, casual shirt and pant combos, and even some bizarre French outfits Rarity had given up. Luna was the most frustrating customer she ever had and she had destroyed ten outfits because she couldn't find the hole or the zipper.

"Hehe… Once again, I am very sorry, Rarity, for causing all this trouble. I will pay for all the damaged outfits."

"No worries, sweetie! This was all in the name of love. Oh, love! How sweet and bitter you are!"

Just as Rarity was about to go on a tale of one of her lovers, Sunshine appeared with four pieces of nearly identical clothing.

"Rarity, what are these things? They look cute and simple for a first date."

"Those are called socks, my dear. They are part of the spring line I am putting together. You are right, though, those would be PERFECT for a first date."

Luna questionably looked at these things they called socks. Before she had time to protest, Sunshine was putting them on her front hooves and Rarity was putting the other two on her back hooves. Luna looked at herself in the mirror in front of her. The socks were a light pink color and had a simple flower design to them. She liked how soft they were against her coat and how they gave her a more elegant look.

"I… I…"

Rarity and Sunshine leaned in with anticipation.

"I LOVE SOCKS!"

Luna started dancing around the store in her new fashion attire until she ran into a ponyequin. All three ponies burst out laughing.

Rarity waved goodbye to Sunshine and Luna as they left the store. As they were walking out, they spotted Fluttershy pulling a wagon with her bunny, Angel, and all his relatives. They were being relocated while their houses were being rebuilt. Luna walked gracefully with her new socks. She wanted to show them off to Caramel, who would be helping her with her next plan for the date.

"I love those socks of yours, Luna!" Fluttershy said softly.

Luna did a curtsey to her, "Why, thank you, they are for my da-". Luna's front left leg slipped from being unbalanced. She felled face first into the cart of bunnies. Before any of the ponies had time to react and save them, they all scattered away.

The three ponies heard screams in the distance as the bunny stampede made it's way through town.

"I am so sorry Fluttershy! I wish I could help you, but I need to go meet Caramel and…"

"Go, Luna. Your first date is important and you need to meet with Caramel. I'll help Fluttershy with the bunnies." Sunshine nuzzled Luna's neck.

"Thank you. I owe you."

As Sunshine ran ahead to catch up with Fluttershy, Luna took off her socks with her teeth. As she tried to get the ones on her back legs off, she fell on her flank.

"I hate socks."

Caramel was walking home after making his last delivery. He had to deliver a bow tie to Big Mac for his big date with Luna tonight. He wished he was dropping off that bow tie for his date with Mac, but he never had the guts to ask him out. Now he has agreed to help Luna figure out what to bake for him. Being Big Mac's best friend he, of course, knew everything about him; all his favorite dishes, what he wore every day, the way his coat smells after using Apple Spice body wash…

Caramel hit his forehead with his hoof when he arrived at his front door. Why did he agree to help? He wanted to be the one to bake for Big Mac, and hold him close, and kiss him with the passion of a thousand of Celestia's suns.

Alas, Mac chose a filly to be with… Unless…

Caramel entered his home and walked to the kitchen with an evil grin. Unless he sabotaged the date. It will just be a little miscommunication over an ingredient.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Even her knock is as smooth as the night sky, thought Caramel. He shook his head. No, he must focus. Big Mac was his true love.

"Hello Caramel! Thank you for meeting on such short notice. It was very nice of you to offer your help with the baking part of the date."

"My pleasure. Mac is my best friend, so I may as well use the information I know about him to help him be happy in his life."

"Oh, you are such a sweet pony. One day, a colt will be happy to call you his boyfriend."

"Colt? Why would you say colt instead of filly?"

"Oh, dear me, I am so sorry! Sunshine told me you were a coltcuddler. She must have been spreading gossip. I am so sorry."

"No need to apologize. Now, let's get down to business, shall we?"

Caramel showed Luna the way to the kitchen. He had already set up all the ingredients and had a bag filled with some for Luna to take home on the kitchen table.

"I am going to teach how to bake an apple pie today, but Big Mac likes a twist to this pony classic. He likes it when you use maple syrup."

"Sounds tasty!" Luna licked her lips.

"It is even tastier than it sounds! Now, first you want to set the oven to…"

Luna left the house an hour later carrying the bag of ingredients in her mouth. She put all her happiness into a big smile and she could not wait to bake her own Apple Syrup Twist Pie back at home.

Caramel snickered as Luna left. He told Luna that the recipe calls for a fourth of a cup of syrup and only gave her that much syrup when the actual recipe calls for a cup.

"When she reads the recipe card and finds out she is missing some, she will be so devastated that she will reveal to Big Mac she is no good for him and he deserves a stallion like Caramel and that's when I come through the door on a white horse… Wait, why am I riding a horse?"

"Now, Big Mac, stop yer fussin'." Applejack had to straighten his bow tie for the fifth time.

"I'm sorry, AJ, but I'm just so nervous for this date."

"I know, sugarcube, but you've got nothin' to worry about. The filly said yes. That's a good start."

"I-I guess you're right, thanks."

"No problem! That's what sisters are for. Now, get on goin' and give 'er a big kiss!"
Big Mac gulped and loosened his bow tie for the sixth time with his front hoof. "K-K-Kiss?"

"Yes. Kiss." Applejack sighed at how stupid her big brother can be at times when comes to dating. "And I give up on that darn bow tie of yours. I'm not fixing it again!"

Applejack started towards the door, "Luna is a nice gal and you have a heart of gold. So, don't mess things up or I'll have to punch you every day for it! Ya got that?" She gave him a smirk.

"Got it. Now go. I need to get ready."

Soon as the door clicked closed, Big Mac looked at himself in the mirror. He took off the bow tie; it was too much anyway for the first date. He took his comb from the dresser and started to comb out his mane.

"You're a fine stallion. Your smile will make Luna melt into your arms." He gave himself the charming smile that made all the fillies faint. He started to brush his tail, "Oh, and would you look at that, you have a fine flank to go with that smile of yours."

Big Mac set down the comb and looked again at the mirror. "But Luna doesn't care about those things; she cares about you, Mac. And she cares if you're a good kisser."

He opened his door slowly and peeked outside. Nopony was coming his way. He shut the door quietly and went back to the mirror. He took out the picture he drew of Luna after the double date with Sunshine and her boyfriend, Hoyden. Mac taped the picture onto the mirror.

"You look as radiant as the stars tonight… Oh forget the pick-up lines, it's just a picture." he leaned into the picture of Luna and started to make out with it.

"Hey, Big Mac, would you like me to pick some flowers for..."

Applejack just stared in shocked at the image in front of her. She tried her best to suppress a laugh but couldn't help herself.

"I'll just leave you two alone. Pfft! I don't want to...ruin the magic of this scene!" She laughed all the way down the hall.

Big Mac rushed to the door and yelled, "Oh go suck a hoof!"

Luna spread out all the cooking supplies in the kitchen and started preparing the meal that would without a doubt make Big Mac fall deeply in love with her.
She set the oven to the correct temperature, she made the pie crust from scratch, she cut up the apples and placed them in the crust (apples from Sweet Apple Acres; Applejack was so pleased when she heard Luna was going to cook for her brother so she gave her his favorite). The last thing to do was add the maple syrup. Luna looked at the recipe card and saw it took one cup of syrup. She could have sworn Caramel said a fourth of a cup, but maybe she misheard him. She took out the bottle of maple syrup and poured it into the measuring cup. It only filled a fourth of the way.

Luna started to panic. She opened up all the cabinets, the fridge, she even took apart the sofa in the living room just to see if there was a bottle somewhere, but alas, she was doomed. Luna fainted onto the now cushion-less couch and sighed. She had to think of something. Maybe she could substitute the rest with honey? Big Mac would be able to tell the difference. She almost gave up and was going to call off the date when she looked out the window at the tree in the front yard. That's right! Sunshine planted a maple tree in the backyard.

"I can still fix it!"

Luna jumped up and down with so much glee that she bumped her head on the ceiling. She didn't mind though. She still had a chance to make an apple pie fit for a Big Mac.

Luna gathered up the bucket and tap to use on the tree and walked outside. She pounded the tap into the tree and placed the bucket underneath. She turned the handle on the tap to let the syrup pour out. She let it pour until she had a half a bucket full, just in case she made a slip up in the kitchen.

Luna used her horn to pick up the bucket. She was making her way towards the door when the ground started rumbling. She looked up to see Angel leading a stampede of bunnies in her direction. They ran right through Luna, knocked down the fence behind her, and continued to run away. Fluttershy wasn't too far behind.

"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry Luna! I would help you, but Angel's being a very bad bunny and...uh...oh my..."

Angel's stampede had made its way into the center of Ponyville and was demolishing every plant in sight.

"I-I've got to go, Luna," Fluttershy flew towards the chaos while attempting to calmly talk down Angel and his comrades.

The syrup-filled bucket was launched into the air during the bunny madness and fell onto Luna's horn. Its contents slowly dripped down her face and onto her body. She took a deep breath and tried not to panic. It was just a small set back. She brought up her hooves and tried to get the bucket off her horn. It refused to come off. She kept pulling harder and harder, but the bucket wouldn't budge.

Luna glared at the inside of the bucket. "It. Is. ON. You bucket of an owl feather!"

She got on her back and attempted to use all four hooves to get the bucket off her head. She stopped trying when she heard a familiar chuckle and saw red hooves appear under the bucket. Luna was so glad her face was hidden; otherwise Big Mac would have seen her turn redder than the apples she handpicked for the pie.

"Looks like you're in a sticky situation."

"It's nice to see you can make jokes regarding my misfortune."

"I'm sorry, Luna. Here, let me help." Big Mac lifted Luna off her back and started to lick the syrup off her face. Luna flinched at the touch of his tongue on her cheek. Mac continued licking and started licking under the bucket. Luna backed away from him and bumped her flank into the tree.

"Ow…"

"You're so silly!," he chuckled, "Now, just hold still and let me help you." Mac licked a little more under the bucket and was finally able to loosen it off her horn. Underneath, he revealed an embarrassed Luna glaring at him for making her so flustered.

Big Mac stared at Luna's face and started to giggle.

"Don't give me that look! It wasn't my fault that the bucket fell on my head!"

"I wasn't giggling at you for getting that bucket stuck on your horn, I was laughing at the fact you have syrup running down your mouth."

"I do?"

"Eeyup."

"Well, aren't you going to finish cleaning me up?"

"As you wish."

Big Mac leaned in and started to lick off the syrup. His tongue glided into her mouth smoothly and he felt her lips returning the kiss.

Sunshine was walking back home from another Pinkie Pie party. She almost got tricked into doing two Rainbow Races, but she knew better. Ten shots in a row? She would have been home for two days with the worse hangover in history. As she was getting out her keys, she remembered that Luna's date was tonight and she hoped all went well. It is Luna after all… She freaked out over a microwave and now she was going to bake a pie?

Sunshine opened the door to find the house intact and there was no panicking Luna in sight. The two love birds were nowhere to be found in the house. She walked out back and saw the two cuddling on a blanket, enjoying the night sky.

"Hello Sunshine! How was the party?" Luna got up and walked over to Sunshine.

"It was fun! Applejack brought over a new game to play called, Apples to Apples. How did your evening go? Did any Luna moments happen?"

"Well, there was a major one, but Big Mac came just in time to help me."

"Hee hee, so the date went well, I presume?"

"Yes," Luna glanced over at Big Mac, remembered that first kiss, and smiled, "It was the best night ever."

Big Mac finally asks Luna out on a date and Luna goes all over
town to make the date perfect. Unfortunely, things do not go as planned... or do they?

Here is a link to the picture, :iconbigponymac: did for me for this fanfic: [link]

Also, :icondustypony: was the one who made the 'Apple Spice' that I reference. I would like to give credit to where it is due for the idea. Y'all should go to youtube and watch the video and favorite his picture!

Author's Notes:

I would like to give :iconajtalon:, author of Progress, credit for the Luna and Big Mac shipping. I have also taken the personality for my Luna from his fanfics and I have reference a story or two.

I would like to give Cogs, author of Apple Branches, credit for giving me the Caramac shipping idea.

If those of you who do read Progress, I have taken out the part where Luna hides her identity. It got too complicated to know which pony knew who she was and which ones did not.

Thanks to the two above authors; for my two RDN brony friends who edited my first fanfic: :iconbigponymac: and :icongear9242:; and to Midnight Shadow for coming up with this challenge.
A shout out to all my bronies on the RDN Skype: Thank you for the support <3
An extra thank you to Bigponymac for making the picture to go with this story <3<3<3

And lastly, for copyright stuff, I do not own the rights to characters this fanfic was based off of. Hasbro owns the rights to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
